World Assist helps homeless veterans at local event

World Assist has an ongoing relationship with Mecklenburg County Community Support Services (MCCSS), located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Veterans Service Office of MCCSS acts as a regional resource specifically geared to assist the homeless veteran population within the Piedmont area of North Carolina. MCCSS works in conjunction with many area shelters and transitional housing facilities that serve homeless and low-income veterans.

World Assist distributed over the counter personal care and hygiene products to over 350 homeless and at-risk veterans at the Charlotte (NC) area Stand Down held in October. Each attending veteran received his or her own bag filled with much needed items to help them love healthier lives. The products included shampoo, facial scrub, wound cleanser, cortisone cream, sun block, skincare wipes, and lip balm.

John, one of the veterans who attended the Stand Down event, served in Vietnam. "It's great to know that people care about us," he said. "There is a big need for hygiene supplies, as most homeless vets do not have the means to get these types of items. The support from the community and from the nation is very important because there are a lot of people out here who really, really need help."
